I’m relistening to Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and I was just listening to a part about having your incentives align with your day-to-day activities.
I find this interesting because I see both sides – if you assign a specific activity a carrot, then you’re tying that activity and the expectation with receiving that. This could be counter-intuitive over time, as you’ll only do certain activities for the end prize or reward.
While I get the mindset, I’m still trying to work out when best to use something like this, and how extreme to go – I’m thinking about this more from a management perspective and I’ll continue writing about this area to flesh out my own opinion.
