Being a go-to source

When reading Ogilvy on Advertising earlier today (while waiting in A+E to sort out a football-related injury) I read some really interesting quotes, but one which stood out was the virtue of devouring all the information in a particular industry to make you the go-to knowledge source on your clients’ industry (as well as your own industry).

If you know the market well, the user base and the competitors, you can be seen as the person who has a well-rounded view of where the future is going.
